Lead-safe painting for pre-1978 homes

Much of Lansing and East Lansing’s housing stock was built before 1978, when lead paint was still common. If you’re renovating, scraping, or repainting older rooms, dust control matters — especially with kids or pregnancy in the home.

What “lead-safe” means on our jobs

  • Assume lead on pre-1978 surfaces unless testing says otherwise.
  • Contain the work area so dust doesn’t travel through the house.
  • Use work practices that minimize dust (not dry sanding chaos).
  • Clean up thoroughly before we leave.
  • Share the current EPA Renovate Right pamphlet so you know your rights and what to expect.

This page is about how we work — not a scare pitch and not a dump of an old PDF. For the federal homeowner pamphlet, see the EPA’s current Renovate Right information. Ask about our lead-safe practices when you call for an estimate.
